The Pohutukawa Tunnel is inspired by state highway 2 that runs in front of the Artists home in Waiotahe Beach New Zealand.
 
There is a stunning tree tunnel that runs for over 2km along the highway. Te Mete says "I drive under and through this tunnel when driving into the Opotiki Township to get supplies, it's a stunning piece of nature that is always changing, growing, blooming and the light always brings different tonal values to the mood of the tunnel".
 
The Pohutukawa is a native tree to New Zealand, often recognised internationally as the New Zealand Christmas Tree due to it's bright vibrant red flowers that bloom during December (New Zealand Summer Time)
